ContextThe IES Poeta Tomás Morales Castellano (result of the fusion of two historic schools in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) has traditionally been a Secondary School involved in many projects. However since last year, IES Poeta Tomás Morales Castellano has been providing training for students in Vocational Education and Training (Business Administration). For this reason, this project is now presented in order to develop mobility for both students and teachers from VET studies.ObjectivesRegarding the mobility of students, the objectives are set in terms of improving their professional skills but also their soft skills and language skills. All this through traineeships and the need of adaptation to a new enviroment. This will enhance their employability. In relation to the teachers, we understand that this mobility can be a unique opportunity to exchange educational and school management experiences and improve language skills. In addition, teachers can start a new network of contacts in Europe. All this will result in increased prestige of the school as a participant in European programs and will establish links with other institutions in Europe.Number and profile of participants and description of activitiesMobility of students for internships in companies as part of their FCT (Training in Workplaces). They are students aged between 17 and 20, most of them with poor language skills and low socioeconomic level who have not had the opportunity to go abroad. The project proposes that two students put into practice in a real company what they have learned at school. This experience will entail two months practice to be included in their CV providing more employment opportunities. As far as mobility of teachers for training is concern, two teachers will experience jobshadowing for five days in order to exchange experiences and good practices with other schools in Portugal and business representatives in the area.MethodologyA detailed chronology and functions of IES Poeta Tomas Morales and the Escola Profissional de Aveiro has been described in the project. The use of resources such as email, phone, Skype, Whatsapp or Moodle are indispensable for the success of fluid communication between the different parts. A visit by the tutor of our school would take place if possible. The huge experience of our Portuguese partners and the good relationship between the parts will guarantee the fluidity of communications and good monitoring and mentoring of students. Our school will receive weekly updates of the students in practice. As for the evaluation, we will use the training program assessment. This form of monitoring and evaluation will be available in Moodle platform. Results and expected impactStudents significantly improve their professional skills, personal and social skills (teamwork, self-confidence, ability to make decisions, and so on) and also achieved an improvement in communication in English and Portuguese. And, consequently, improve their employability. All this is to assess through meetings, questionnaires and interviews, and finally through the new employment contracts. With regard to teachers, an improvement is expected in the competencies, skills and strategies as a teacher, also a higher motivation and an improvement in linguistic competence. Measuring impact is expected through meetings, sharing of experiences and implementation of new teaching strategies. As for the organization, it will seek to measure the number of relationships established with other European institutions and the expected increase in demand for places to study at our school.Long-term benefitsThe long-term benefits are related to the consolidation of VET studies in the IES Poeta Tomás Morales Castellano as a way to achieve a quality employment for our students and contribute to the improvement of the employment and welfare rates in the Canary Islands.
