This project is based on the results of a previous LEONARDO project survey that established the need for specialised training of maintenance and technical staff in SMEs in the Polymer and Engineering industries. It will facilitate maintenance of new electronic aids to the production process in these companies. The project will develop a flexible interactive training package. This will enable trainees to learn according to their own level and work situation. The modular system will enable them to select the areas in which they most need training at the most convenient time for them to learn. The product, which will be available as an interactive CD-ROM, will include written material to assist tutors and will deliver built-in simulations targeted at maintenance engineers. This will enable SMEs to develop their maintenance staff skills by facilitating lifelong learning. Seminars, exhibitions, presentations to local businesses, trade unions, employers' organisations and regular bulletins to employers and employer organisations will all contribute to the dissemination of the project.
