The meeting of the Model European Parliament 2014 in Luxembourg (MEP Europe) is about European political participation and empowerment of young people. The support of young people for the european integration is europewide at a low level. So the aim of or project is to give young people the opportunity to get emotionally and intellectual involved in european politics, by preoccupation with youth relevant topis. On the one hand, the participants will strengthen their skills through their participation. On the other hand, they discuss issues within the framework of structured dialogue in one of the MEP committees. They do this in the plenary meeting as well as in the final fishbowl discussion with policy makers. We use the simulation of the European Parliament as a method for this. Furthermore, we want to give voice to youth-related topics. From the 8-15.11.2014, around 140 students from the 10th and 11th grade are expected in Luxembourg, originating from 21 European countries (EU plus candidate countries Turkey, possibly Serbia and Macedonia). The topics are chosen in advance over the internet by the Committee Chairman and the President while however considering the proposals of the involved countries. The participating countries hold internal preparatory MEP meetings to choose potential participants. At the actual 2014 MEP meeting, which will be held in the boardroom of the Jean Monnet Building in Luxembourg, resolutions will be drafted, discussed and voted in ten different committees. Thus, an extensive catalogue of proposals and demands from young participants is drafted. Those proposals and demands will be discussed in the fishbowl discussions with youth or European decision-makers (including actual MEPs) from different political parties and levels. For pre - and post-processing, students discuss in their local schools with politicians about the project issues. The main event will be documented under the form of a video, a website and a printed newspaper formatted by the participants themselves. The students will get a deep and lasting insight into the work, function and importance of the European Parliament and European integration. They will strengthen many key skills and learn to become socially engaged. In addition, European issues should be discussed and pursued with European policy makers that have relevance for young people in terms of the principles of the European Youth Strategy with European policy makers. Through their work with young people, politicians should be sensitized and motivated to engage themselves for youth problems. The strengthening of european identity and the feeling for european citizenship under young people will be the main longtermn benefit of the project.
