PROJECT
FINISHED
There are several groups in the project, different student groups and levels as well as teachers. There are basic courses students within jewelers, electricians, car mechanics, carpenters and blacksmiths. There will be accompanying teachers from some of the branches for emitting basic pupils. For electrician basic course students training at Tromsø maritme skole, a subject teacher will participate in class as well as sharing knowledge with their Norwegian colleagues. There are apprentices within the subject fields of process, silversmiths and blacksmiths. As a target group for knowledge sharing, there will be teachers from the departments of blacksmiths, process and electrician and a project coordinator.
The purpose of the students’ mobility stays includes strengthening and upgrading their professional identity and developing their knowledge of their professions. The goldsmith basic course students are to rediscover the discipline filigree. The silversmith apprentices are to achieve a much larger and more independent approach to design and rediscover different silversmith techniques, the aim is also to counter and prevent loss of competences in the subject field. For blacksmith apprentices the intention is to get a peek into travelling with the subject field and experience their profession in other contexts. Process operator apprentices will experience their own specialist knowledge in a new, different and relevant production in this project mainly in the fishing industry. The electrician basic course students will get to work project-oriented and strengthen their professional identity, the mobility stays are based on student exchange and return visits. Basic course Students from the education of carpenters will through work placements strengthen their professional identity working with in another building tradition. The mobility stay is likely to boost interest in the possibility of seeking an apprenticeship abroad with PIU or see opportunities in traveling with work. Car mechanic basic students shall also work in local workshops in Reykjavik, where the focus is on cars suitable for off-road driving, this provides a different angle to subject field.
One purpose is also for the teaching staff to focus on structural comparison and sharing knowledge with in education and approaches to teaching. We will make use of the knowledge and experience of our Norwegian colleagues, which have an education structure where training starts with 2 years at school; it is especially interesting for the school-based practical training.
All subject fields and thus all subprojects in the overall project, has a professional content to contribute to each of their industrial sector. It ranges from the acquisition of very specific craft disciplines, to greater and greater insight and geographical mobility.
Through mutual student exchange, the cooperating parties experience a willingness to invest resources in order for the project to succeed. In particular, knowledge-sharing project led the teachers together and developed the professional skills. There is still much to work with in that and the level of cooperation is great from both sides.
Apprentices are selected in collaboration with their apprenticeships and it is important that the companies take ownership of their students' mobility.
Basic course students from goldsmiths and electrician training will collectively be presented for a possible mobility, here it is student exchange with cooperating school and teaching will remain within the framework of the curriculum. Basic course Students from car mechanics and carpentry programs will be handpicked to ensure that they have adequate skills to both succeed in the mobility stay in a company and complete the basic course despite the weeks abroad in mobility stay.
