Following a change of headmaster in September 2013 the EPLEFPA in Eure defined a new school project which was initiated during the Administration Board of March 27 2014.
This project aims at developing the international cooperation within the EPLEFPA. The desire to open a European section was official during the Administration Board of June 2014.
The objective of this application was to prepare the opening of the European section and to form a team of volunteers involved in the development of international exchanges. Before the European section starts, which subjects will be biology and ecology, teachers need to be trained before being accredited. A team of voluntary teachers to work on international cooperation has been constituted in January 2014 through a group called “Café euro”. This group meets every week to discuss actions to promote international cooperation within the EPLEFPA. However this work can only be effective if several members could have a training in English with a real linguistic immersion to establish contacts with other European teachers.
The training of those members could not be paid by the EPLEFPA only. That is why we decided to apply for staff mobility which can only be possible with a financial coverage with Erasmus+.
Participants for this mobility were 3 biology-ecology teachers likely to teach in English, a teacher of English willing to reinforce the motivation of the students for languages through new educational activities and 3 teachers in other subjects (History, French, Maths) interested to contribute to developing activities to sensitize pupils about international opening (school projects, cultural visits in English) and also about student mobility (study trip, individual mobility) and a management staff managing the group and having participated in a study trip about inter-GAL international cooperation.
This project has been established thanks to a motivated team and in an ascending way: the school project to open European sections lead some teachers to volunteer to prepare this opening and to ask an Erasmus+ financing so as to reinforce the linguistic skills and to develop European partnerships. Indeed the “Café euro” is fully open to everybody (meetings announced to all, everybody being free to participate) and all kinds of subjects related to international cooperation are debated.
The expected results of this mobility were:
-an accreditation of teachers to teach in English
-the constitution of a real team working on international cooperation with individual skills to establish contacts with European partners and participate in school exchanges.
-the constitution of an exchange network with European partners met during the mobilities.
The impact are multiple:
-for the teachers of the mobility: the acquisition of extra linguistic skills, a broadened mind and an intellectual curiosity, the apprehension of a European citizen.
-for the students who will participate in the creation of European exchanges, a spirit of sharing, a taste for undertaking, an open mind.
The potential benefit in the long term is a sustainability of European exchanges which will be beneficial in recruiting students and for exam results, an emulation for the teaching staff.
