Mobilité et Ouverture Vers l'Europe
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our vocational school is situated in a rural area in the West of France, not far from the Atlantic coast. Our school offers vocational courses in different fields like the service industry and the industrial area. Most of our students comes from an underpriviledged environment and a European mobility was a great opportunity for them to experiment another culture and open their mind on the international world. The students who were concerned by the project are preparing a diploma to work as receptionists. They are supposed to have skills in foreign languages. A European section opened in 2013 and provides management courses in English. In that course, the students are prepared to be future European citizens, they take an exam and their diploma will mention that they have attended a European course – it is the “EuroPro Section”. In that context, it was essential to provide them the opportunity to make a training session abroad, especially in a European country. We had the chance to get a contact in Malta and met the agreement with the Yorkie Clothing company to organize a five-week training session there. So within two school years, we sent 12 students in different companies in Malta: five students at first and seven in the second year. Our collaborator in Malta organized and found the work placement in various companies: there were two hotels, a travel agency, two shops, a diving school and a bookshop. The students stayed in host families. Our partner ensured the well-being of the students during their stay in Malta as well as cultural activities – they visited the capital city “La Valette”, Gozo island, and some typical cities like Mdina and the fishermen village of Marsaxlokk. They participated in some sports activities with Maltese people and other foreign students and also went to the cinema. The teachers accompanied the students for the first week in order to meet the tutors of the companies and negotiate the skills and tasks to be done during their work placement. Then they went back to Malta to evaluate the students at the end of their training session and accompany them for their return to France. At the end of their training session the teachers with the tutors evaluated the students. As a result of their assessment the students were given a diploma which assess their professional and personal skills. They received a “Europass” and “Europro”. Moreover, at the end of the year there was a specific oral exam which assesses the students communication skills: face to face, writing and phoning skills. Thus, twelve students got the Europass and Europro and three of them in the first year got the “Europan section” option on their diploma. This year two students received the “Europan section” option. The student also passed the “optional unit of Mobility”. Concerning higher education, 40% of the students from the first year registered in University. On the second year, 80 % of the students have registered for higher education in September. The mobility was a good opportunity for the students to reinforce their autonomy and improve their self-confidence. They participated in different activities to share their experience (with other students to present their cursus or in various exhibitions for the local authorities, and through the school website). The mobility has a great impact on our school because it is one of the criteria for young people who are looking for a vocational school to register in our school "Lycée professionnel des Trois Rivières" because of the attractive mobility project.
