BBS Stadthagen is a vocational school situated in Lower Saxony, Germany with an enrollment of approx. 1,900 students. 45 % of these are apprentices in 35 different professions. During the 2-year project period 20 apprentices from the following professions are supposed to get the opportunity to do a 3-week job placement in England.Job placements are offered for- hotel and restaurant specialists- cooks- bakers- sales assistants in bakeries- car salesmen- bankers- office clerks- management assistants for retail services- management assistants in wholesale and foreign trade- assistants in public administration- information technology specialists- information technology system electronics technicians- technical product designers- systems mechanicsand further industrial professions where requiredThe objectives of this project are to promote decision-making skills and responsibility among young apprentices in order to improve not only their foreign language skills and therefore their occupational skills, but also acting tolerant towards other cultures, increase their self-confidence and train their ability to manage conflicts .Participants are chosen by their technical and foreign language skills but also by criteria that review the applicant's ability to adapt to new situations. Independence, willingness to aquire new skills and endurance are also important aspects.Both during the preparation by BBS Stadthagen and during the stay abroad students will get a cultural training to prepare them for the host country's customs, but also to communicate and extend their knowledge in regard to the country's economy, culture, history and politics. According to individual requirements language training for job placements will be carried out by BBS Stadthagen. Staff from BBS Stadthagen will accompany the students at the beginning of their stay abroad while the partner institution organizes accommodation, chooses companies where the students do their job placements, offers a cultural programme and does the mentoring. To ensure the quality of the exchange the participants and BBS Stadthagen sign a participant contract, which also includes a learning agreement, showing rights and duties of both parties.At the end of the stay every participant is expected to evaluate the job placement together with their mentors, but each company providing a job placement is also asked to give a feedback on the student's performance by help of an evaluation sheet. After the students have successfully completed their job placements they will receive the Europass "Mobility". Information about the project and reports about participants' experiences will be published on the website of BBS Stadthagen and in the local press. On a national level experiences will also be shared during network meetings.
