Mobile learning for enhancing key competences of autonomous workers and owners of SME from the Road transport

Road transport sector has a central role in the continued growth of EU’s economy.In 2008, created more than 5 mill. jobs and the turnover was about 432,331mill.€ (Stati. pocketbook 2011, EC).However, the current economic crisis is affecting the sector considerably.It has cancelled out 6 years of growth(Eurostat).Having this scenario in mind and trying to address the EU 2020 Strategy and the European Employment strategy, it is necessary to provide suitable and flexible learning environments for the promotion of those key competences that contribute to achieve the referred aims. The report “Key Competences for LL– A European Framework” establishes 8 key competences. Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship and Digital competences, are 2 of them.Fostering these key competences in the road transport sector is necessary in order to prepare the operators to compete proficiently, have sustainable businesses, create employ, added value and face new demands and skills coming from their sector. M-Road project takes as basis the special need of training that suffer workers from the road transport sector.The educa.profile of these workers between 15-64 years old (20,5% have basic primary educa. and 50%, upper secondary and post-secondary educa. Eurostat-2010) isn’t so high and therefore, they need new learning environments and access to VET.VET systems should take this into consideration. iN addition, nowadays VET methods differ country by country and therefore, it is necessary to create tools that will help them to converge towards a European model. M-Road project aiming to overcome thetraining gap of these workers.Thus, will develop an innovative m-learning tool addressed to autonomous workers and owners of SME totrain them on those key competences.M-Road project will take the mentioned 2 competences as main focus and using a new learning approach, the mobile learning, will create a tool to enhance these competences.
