The Youth exchange “The Guardians of The Fairy Tales” will use fairytales as an agent which mediates the culture and mentality of its community of origin and as a stimulant of intercultural dialog amongst youth.By exchanging traditional fairytales among the participants we wish to encourage them to be open to other cultures and develop their sensibility for similarities and differences between them. We also want to create safe and comfortable arena to discuss questions of preserving cultural heritage and traditions as well as, with European Year of the Family in mind, questions of families and family life in the past and today.
Youth exchange will be attended by 20 young people with fewer opportunities (aged between 16 and 25 years) from 5 countries (Bulgaria, France, Italy, Slovenia and Spain), accompanied by 6 youth leaders. Since all partner organizations are members of YUWG (group for inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities) within the SCI (Service Civile International),we will dedicate special attention to quality preparation of the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, who are facing different social and economic obstacles, thus giving them an opportunity for active involvement in the social life.
All the activities taking place during the youth exchange will be based on the methods of non-formal education and knowledge exchanges among participants themselves. Most widely used methods of communication and education will be different types of social, sportive, creative and artistic workshops and games, discussions, outdoor activities, ice-breaking games, team-building, theatre workshops, etc.
During the exchange we will encourage interaction of the participants with local population, which will reach its climax in the presentation of the theatre piece to the locals. The main product of the youth exchange will be a theater play prepared by participants through various workshops (workshop on acting, storytelling workshop, recycled arts workshop, etc.), aided by youth leaders.
Young participants will be actively involved in all the actives of the Youth exchange, which will allow them to feel included and important and to build their self-confidence and independence. Through group interaction and creative work in the international setting young people will be exposed to intercultural learning, which will have positive consequences on their acceptance of difference, tolerance. Together with young people from different European nations they will create their own notion of European citizenship.
