Mixture of Cultures
Start date: Jul 1, 2012,

The general theme of this activity is raising European awareness and fostering cultural exchange in the city of Gyumri. The project is a response to a strongly present interest in and a need to facilitate access to European culture in general, especially for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The project is a need to facilitate the ‘’Europaen Corner’’ held by YIC. The project also directly aims at enlarging the scope of knowledge of the local youth on European citizenship, get them to know other cultures, to understand that whatever is different is not necessarily wrong but rather a new field of knowledge one should acquire. The project will actively involve the local youth in creating their own future and building their personal life and the life of the community they live in. Finally, the project aims at developing the organizational skills of “Youth Initiative Center” NGO in Gyumri, share their experience and give practical advice on helping them to develop their own EVS projects by means of establishing long-term cooperation with the EU partners. The project will also form part of a wider campaign aimed at promoting youth activity and volunteerism in Armenia. During the 8 months of Volunteers Service in Gyumri, Armenia the volunteers from Portugal, Romania and Austria will held Language and Cultural Clubs within “European Corner” presenting their cultures and languages. The project will help to raise the level of knowledge of the local youth on European citizenship, get them to know other cultures, to understand that whatever is different is not necessarily wrong but rather a new field of knowledge one should acquire.
