Mit "MINT" und "CLIL" fit für Europa
Start date: Oct 1, 2016, End date: Sep 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Herzog-Christoph Secondary School is a public, general educating school with over 500 years of tradition. It is one of the few secondary schools in Baden-Württemberg that offers the Abitur in nine (G9) instead of eight years. Special attention is paid to the STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) field at our school. Since this school term we have been qualified to be a “STEM-EC” school and therefore a full member in the “STEM-EC” excellence network, which is restricted to a few selected schools. The HCG offers a bilingual profile starting in class 5, which is currently built up, as well as a language profile and a science profile. Additionally, there is a sports profile from class 9 upwards. In the science profile the subject STEM is offered in class 9. In addition, STEM 1 is newly introduced in class 7 as major subject. The HCG is the only secondary school in Baden-Württemberg that serves the talent program for younger exceptionally talented students in the science field. Therefore, the main approaches of the project are on the one hand the support of the professional development of our teaching staff to acquire teaching methods to meet the requirements to establish the newly introduced science profile (STEM 1) with new innovative teaching tools and methods. On the other hand the improvement of the teacher’s language competences due to school subjects taught in a foreign language should be enhanced. For our school the connection of both approaches is essential due to the gradual implementation of bilingual lessons in science subjects. This has been already realized for younger students in some European countries. In the course of a pan-European exchange we want to profit from the experiences and acquire professional, linguistic and digital competences, as well as intercultural competences.Through close collaboration of our MINT-teachers with teachers from all over Europe new possibilities are created to acquaint and evaluate foreign best practice teaching methods by means of job shadowing (7 training activities) as well as attending science classes (6 training activities). This aims at the effective applying of these teaching methods. Furthermore, the language competence of our English teachers in CLIL school subjects will be enhanced while attending language classes (12 training classes). In the long run, knowledge, methods and skills, which our teaching staff will acquire during the training activities, shall be implemented in our lessons to improve the chances of our students in their future vocational training or in their future studies. Additionally, this project fosters the evolving of further Erasmus+ Partnerships from its culture of cooperation among teachers from different scientific areas and different European countries.
