Mission Europe is an international project that brings 24 young people, aged 16 to 18, from Belgium, Germany and Poland together during three long weekends in Ypres (Be), Krakow (Pl) and Berlin (De) to participate in debates, discussions, workshops and tours concerning mainly the two World Wars, the Cold War and the European Union. Thus the main themes being ‘the road from war to peace’ and ‘the European Union’. Mission Europe V aims to immerse young people in the consequences of the history and to develop a mutual understanding between youngsters in the spirit of European identity, solidarity, tolerance and cultural diversity as a key to a ‘united in diversity’ Europe, mainly through non-formal and informal education. Mission Europe hopes to contribute to the formation of an open-minded, globally-aware and international-minded future generation. The project aims to display the feeling of a culturally rich and differentiated, yet united Europe with similar overarching values; especially among countries that once fought each other but now cooperate closely.
