Migration in the EU: challenges and opportunities

International migration is a sensitive issue of the modern world. Only 3% of people in the world are migrants but they provoke discussion on the national and international levels. Migration level always increases in response to socioeconomic and political crises which are one of the characteristics of the 20th - 21st centuries. The situation is becoming more and more complicated, especially over the last few years, because of ongoing conflicts in Syria, Libya and Iraq. The massive influx of refugees has overwhelmed the European region. Russia is a part of this process.The strategic aims of the project are to contribute to better understanding of the complexity and controversial nature of migration processes in the EU, to provide students with knowledge of migration process and policy, cross-cultural communication with immigrants and refugees in Europe and gender aspects of the migration. The module strives to examine migration from a comparative historical and political perspective, bringing together insights from a variety of social science disciplines including political science, sociology, gender studies, economics and geography. Project objectives are: ● to study the concepts of migration, mobility and transnationality in the contemporary context, focusing on migration crises in EU● to explore issues related to political, social, cultural, gender development of migration in the EU regarding the integration of refugees into the cultural and social realities● to introduce students to a variety of institutions, individuals, geographical locations of migrants and viewpoints on migration issues in EU● to learn current migration policy of EU on national and EU levels● to create and implement the retraining course for regional authorities retraining program.The project is targeted on students of the International Relations Faculty and Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology as well as regional and local authorities.
