PROJECT
FINISHED
The " Athens -Seynod : Put your sneakers EKO GREEN Europe" provides an opportunity for a group of 16 young Greek and French people to discover a culture different than the one they are used to in their daily life. With two mixed teams, the young people will share this european experience to develop new skills and have a new look as european citizens.
The project will take place from the 19th of july until to 29th of july 2014 (11 days, 10 nights ), in Mati in the suburbs of Athens, Greece. 8 young french people from Saint Benoît in Seynod (in Haute-Savoie region), aged from 13 to 17, will be invited to share the daily life of 8 young Greek people from Hatzikonsta foundation, through three major activities combining sport, culture and environment :
- multi- sports Olympiad ( swimming, athletics , football, basketball and beach volleyball )
- Workshops " Eco -citizenship " (environmental awareness , handiwork-recycling , gardening, green contest )
- Visit of places and ancient and modern Greek historical monuments (marathon museum and site, ancient Olympic stadium for the olympic games in 2004, Acropolis ...)
In addition to leading all the young people of both parties to discover each other through their cultures and representations, the project highlights the roots of each participant, their origins and the different aspects of their cultures.
This project is also a way to stimulate and develop individual potentials and skills , particularly in terms of self-confidence and human values. It aims at making this exchange rich and rebounding for the life of each of the participant.
In a general way, Apprentis d’Auteuil foundation shows a great interest to sustainable developement, the opening to others and outside. These are topics that every educator must have in mind to educate the young people they accompany, so that they are aware that their knowledge in this area will have a major impact on their future lives. This year the focus set at St Benoît House is on priority actions related to the daily life: limiting food waste / participate in environmental events / promote travel by foot or bike to try to become a better eco- citizen. These ideas and values are also those of the EKO association, XATZIKONSTA association and the center of Mati , a pilot center for youth awareness on environment and recycling ( one of the first centers in Greece to have set points , trucks and recycling bins. Please see below ). Therefore, it appears important that the Franco- Greek group be able to discuss these practices and behaviors enhancing ecology. To do this, we will favor public transport for long distances and other travel will be on foot . To remain in a logic of action , we have attached a very keen attention to ecology and have ( with the help of Deputy Mayor of Athens) found an accommodation place that is fully autonomous in water (2 water towers) , electricity and waste recycling. The center of Mati offers educators to help them to set up activities around recycling and is also pioneer in the field (manual activities workships , re-use of left over food etc ....)
The project aims at showing to young people that even in times of crisis, it is possible to live properly by sharing authentic moments in the respect of differences.
