Start date: Dec 31, 2014,
End date: Dec 30, 2015
PROJECT
FINISHED
Project background:
In Italy new government regulations concerning the reorganization of the school system (“Riforma scuola secondaria”) require secondary schools to teach parts of the syllabi of content subjects through a foreign language (which, at “Liceo Bérard”, is English).
Since the Aosta Valley borders with France, in the schools of the region some subjects are taught in French (L2).
Objectives:
Within the framework of the above context, it is necessary to act as follows:
1) Provide content-teachers with methodological and linguistic skills in English and French, in compliance with the European dimension of education;
2) Promote knowledge updating for language teachers (L1 & L2) and strengthen both their metalinguistic (comparative & contrastive analysis) and specific (“LSP” / microlanguge) skills, which will allow them to help their content colleagues cope with “teaching subject through a foreign language”.
Number of partners:
2 French partners
1 British partner
French partners: 5 teachers will be involved in the project, of whom 4 content teachers and 1 language teacher (French as L2)
British partner: 5 teachers will be involved, of whom 3 content teachers, 1 teacher of English as a foreign language and 1 French teacher.
Activities requested:
United Kingdom: training courses (CLIL courses / Methodology courses for English teachers and foreign language teachers).
France: job shadowing activities.
Methodology:
During the job-shadowing activities and the training courses in the UK, the trainee teachers will be encouraged to fill in observation grids. They will also be asked to write a final report at the end of their training period.
Expected results:
Language teachers: Improvement of language teaching skills, in compliance with the European dimension of education.
Content teachers: acquisition of innovative teaching skills, in compliance with the European dimension of education.
After the stage, the trainees will be bound to disseminate the knowledge acquired, by collaborating with their school colleagues and by implementing teaching units in some classes of the school.
The results and the outcomes of the training activities will be evaluated by an internal European project “Board of examiners” at Liceo Bérard.
