Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Under the new tasks that emerge for school communities from the economic and social crisis in Greece, our main objective is for the director and the teachers of our school to update their knowledge on issues related to the management of the unprecedented situation that school faces nowadays. Our goal is also to improve school functioning at all levels including educational, social / organizational and technical/ economical, to upgrade the education we provide, in a climate of trust and cooperation between all stakeholders, to improve the aesthetics of the school environment with the active participation of all and generally open the school to the local community. The project just implemented provided job shadowing by the director of a school in Mem Martins-Portugal, by which our school’s head managed to acquire knowledge about the educational system, the basic legislation, school management and leadership, innovations implemented in Portugal and the quality management system used there. Two teachers traveled to Cyprus on job shadowing in a Primary school, in order to familiarize themselves with the function of a school in a different educational system from the Greek one. Despite of the difference between the educational systems, the two countries have common traditions, culture and historical roots. The teachers got training in teaching practices, in the development of EU projects and the implementation of the principles of the sustainable school in the official school curriculum. The same teachers have already transferred and will continue transferring knowledge and experience acquired during the job shadowing, to their fellow teaches at our school, in order to contribute to an overall improvement of the school. Two more teachers of our school traveled in Italy in order to attend an in service training course on educational innovation and European culture. This course has contributed to the professional development of the teachers, helped to introduce the European educational dimension in our school, get familiar with innovative teaching techniques and experiential learning and improved their own European culture. The participating teachers have benefited the most out of their training and contributed to the effective dissemination of all benefits of training in the community of their fellow teachers and the overall school community. From this project have benefited: • the participating teachers, • teachers who will be trained early in the coming school year by the participating teachers • the pupils , as end- beneficiaries of the improved educational - pedagogical services that will occur as a result of the program, • the school, in the field of administration and general management of all relevant issues, hidden curriculum , functionality of the school, school climate, relationships of the school with parents and the local community, and management of financial issues. • The local community receiving the European culture and the development of friendly ties with European countries. It has also improved, to an extent, the overall learning process and education offered to pupils after a team of teachers undergoing meaningful training can make a difference and sweep up the whole school community. Furthermore, the bridges of cooperation with the school of Italy might be proved useful for other Greek teachers and school heads who would like to take advantage of future similar projects and collaborations, as the hospitality and all offers from the receiving school were of high quality.
