Integrated Computer Training is not always felt to be effective due to a lack of adaptation to a particular environment and/or user need. Given this obstacle, the project will design a computer supported educational platform to meet the requirements of different users, including both educators and trainees. The project's development of a 'metatool' will allow a variety of educators, including parents, to adapt and maintain their own educational platforms, suited to their particular circumstances. The project's metatool is a software package which inputs the user's description of their learning situation and will, based upon this information, produce a self-adaptable, e-learning tool. The metatool will prompt the user to fully describe their educational requirements and learning characteristics, and will align these with appropriate educational practices able to be adapted to the user's situation and needs. Training seminars and workshops, both face-to-face and online, will guide users in the application and adaptation of the metatool with the project placing emphasis upon the 'user-friendliness' of the metatool. End products will be made available through intranet and internet access; with the metatool available on the internet under various platforms, but primarily focusing upon the easily accessible MS Windows environment. Other electronic media, such as CD-Rom will also be used to distribute the developed platform. A METOD office (Meta Tool for Educational Platform Design) will be established by the project to oversee the management of the project and the dissemination of results.
