M.I.D.A.s main objective is to create a strategy of rural development among areas characterized by micro agro industries, through: • The creation of a network among administrations to promote development for rural areas; • The acquisition of know-how on of public subjects engaged in rural development and in micro agro industries; • The experimental pilot actions of protection and improvement of rural areas and of micro industries as a distinction; • The recognition of rural structures to preserve landscape as an environmental and cultural good. The Mediterranean area has developed during the centuries a territorys structure influenced by the presence of agricultural productions and productive industries. The mild climate and the rich soil has made possible during the centuries, the birth of special cultivations that has determined a typical image of the landscape, of towns, of local culture. The cultivations and the forming of rural communities have made necessary the born of roads, villages, rural structures that have a great cultural and landscape interest. The rural heritage is characterized by the presence of interrelated elements: the morphology, the natural environment, the cultivations, as well as elements born form the human intervention on the territory. The project realises common instruments to safeguard and improve these elements, in terms of 1. protection of local landscape 2. quality production and sustainable development 3. local identity culture The project operates on 3 levels: 1. Actions of animation, information and awareness: to spread the culture of opening to the challenges of the open Mediterranean market, of the EU cohesion and of neighbourhood policies. Particular care for the actions of formation and the action of promotion of a common system of popular events, finalised to know the richness of Mediterranean micro agro food industries 2. Actions of cooperation and network: to build joint model of development aimed to the improvement of added value quality. These actions will bring to build a network among subjects like the project partners that may be consolidated in the ambit of the next Ob. 3 of cohesion policies 2007-13 3. Actions of reinforcement of management capacities of the different areas: promoted by • action of Steering Committee, Technical Scientific Committee, periodical meetings • high level formative action, necessary to face with efficient instruments the challenges concerned by the project and to achieve the results The beneficiaries of the project will be local Public Administrations as well as citizens who operate in the sector of improvement of the territories.
