Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Akademie der media GmbH, founded in 1993, is a private vocational school and an accredited academic institution with officially recognized degrees. The Stuttgart based academy trains around 300 experts and specialists in fields of business, media, education and technical product design. The project participants are trainees and retrainees of institutional apprenticeship in technical product design and media designers in the fields of audio/video as well as digital and print. The trainings concludes with an examination at the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK). At the time of their internship the project participants are in the 2nd or 3rd year of their training and have good English skills as well as excellent knowledge in their respective field of training. Because of their institutional education and professional projects, the participants are very familiar with the common software tools and trained in teamwork and independent working. Nowadays, employees need intercultural competence, language and communication skills to be successful on the job market. International exchanges, like internships, offer the possibility of education and development of skills and competences. The aim of the project was to sensitize the participants for intercultural issues and to enable them to integrate their acquired intercultural knowledge and skills into their everyday work. An internship abroad offers professional new insights and perspectives on their own working area as well as information about the foreign market and its business practices. In order to offer all participants equal chances, we applied for the Erasmus+ grant. Thereby, also less affluent participants would be given the opportunity to go abroad. As many apprentices and retrainees as possible should be able to benefit from the advantages of an internship abroad. In the context of Erasmus+, unfortunately Ms. Kohl was just the only participant. At this time, Ms. Kohl was participant at the academy of media in graduation retraining media designer for digital and print. Her dream has always been to seek her professional future outside Germany. In this context the participant wanted to gain work experience abroad and to build a network of new contacts. She decided for an internship at Embrace Cooperation Ltd, a longtime project partner of the academy of media. In the heart of London Ms. Kohl found their professional home for 13 weeks. Their activities during her stay included the full range of media designer. She developed and designed various projects, designed print products, like flyers, brochures, posters and manuals packaging, operated online research and assisted in creating websites and blogs. Her other assignments were part of the areas of press and public relations, translations and marketing. In the context of international internships all sides benefit: The participant gained international work experience and broaded their horizons, the internship companie could count on well-trained, innovative and dedicated intern. The future employers will benefit from the international expertise and highly topical education level of the participant. The Akademie der media sees the long-term benefits in the professional and international exchange with the project partners and participants. In 2015, Ms. Kohl has completed her retraining successfully with IHK certificate. She moved to the UK and works as a media designer in London.
