Media for Inclusion
Start date: May 18, 2015, End date: Nov 17, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Media for Inclusion (MFI) is a youth exchange program with activities that were undertaken in Malta Venue: Lija Malta University Residence R Mifsud Bonnici Str, Lija - Malta Period: Arrival 03/07/2015 - 13/07/2015 The Project looked at the practical ways youths can use Media as a critical tool in everyday life including all people regardless of the gender, ability, disability, religion, race, educational background and many other conditions that may exclude youth from active participation in making a difference in the communities they live. The project has managed to trigger follow-up work and project within some of the partner organisations as an instrument of the results of Media for Inclusion. Lithuanian Partner is working to submit a project on Interfaith tolerance as we encountered these issues during media for inclusion just to mention a few initiatives born out of the project. MFI proved to be practical and hands on solution to the identified gap in improving the learning for youths with diverse backgrounds and life stories by engaging them through using media as tools for informal learning and inclusion. Media has become a major factor in our life hence it has raised so much interest and we could not ignore this important tool. It was just amazing to see people with disability being drawn in and working together with everyone for one common good. CCIF has vowed to include disabled and socially excluded participants in all our future projects as we witnessed a total liberation and opening of great opportunities to all youths. MFI empowered and equipped participants with skills and appropriate know-how on the use of media as a tool to raise awareness on various topics related to human rights, democracy, social inclusion, sports, culture, etc. MFI managed to expose the participants to diversity and to allow them to learn from others' cultures, to become more aware of the values of EU citizenship, and to deal with radicalism/extremism and the lack of tolerance which at the moment is a growing problem. At the beginning of the Exchange some did not understand how some participants looked very normal yet acted different than the rest but at the end of the project there were tears in everyone's eyes as they said their byes. This is the power of building a strong team that taps on each other’s strength and abilities. We undertook implementation of the project to improve all participants’ competencies, skills and practical use of media in daily life. We succeeded in having non-competitive activities undertaken in a very conducive environment, with fun packed learning experiences that motivated all youths to take part and enjoy the non-formal learning experience. The objectives set for the project were all linked to the Erasmus+ programme key action are: - The responsible use of media tools and audio visual applications for informal learning; - Empower participants to be responsible EU citizens; - Team building by working with youths of different backgrounds and cultures; - Promote fun, cultural awareness and tolerance; - Encourage youth to participate in healthy and outdoor activities; - Equip the youths with skills for employment; - Help participating youths to communicate well and build up self-confidence and self-esteem; - Raise awareness on social media safety; - Equip youths with the skills that allow them to directly participate in the democratic process in their country. The project enhanced the aims and objectives of the Erasmus+ Program by including and giving priorities to youths; that are disadvantaged in one way or another, had disability and are encountering educational difficulties, youth from minority groups and those with fewer opportunities and social problems. MFI links perfectly with the Erasmus+ aims of boosting skills and employability, modernizing education, training and youth work as it provides youths with alternatives to train, gain practical experience and volunteer. This youth exchange helped to foster transnational partnerships among NGOs from six different countries namely Spain, Turkey, Lithuania, Malta, Greece and Romania. The quality partnership that emerged has enabled CCIF to include for example the Greek and Romanian Partners in two subsequent projects awaiting approval. We are in a global village where our youths are facing similar challenges MFI was relevant to all participants and managed to motivate the Youths to peruse the opportunities further using the skills gained to raise awareness of the social challenges we are facing and presenting viable solutions thereof. By including fun activities, culture, sports and inclusion MFI supports national efforts to modernize education, training and youth systems.
