PROJECT
FINISHED
The idea of the youth exchange "Media 4 YOUth" came from young people, participating in the previously organised project of Together Estonia in summer 2014 with the similar topic. This project was born as a follow-up and this time young people want to reflect on the way we are influenced by media and how we react to information from media.
The youth exchange took place in Sulbi village in Estonia from 12-18.08.2015. This youth exchange is the continuation of the development of the topic of media that we have already started previously, but this one was realized with some new partners and going deeper in the topic, tackling such topics, like advertising, social networks, media manipulation, media and freedom, election campaigns, etc.
40 young people from Estonia, France, Czech Republic, Italy and Poland were to compare the situation in their countries and discuss about the role that media plays in our societies. For each of the topics, there were reflective workshops, using presentations, discussions in small groups and in plenary, games, quizzes, etc. This enabled young people to present their opinion about the particular theme. They were able to record short movies, write their own newspaper articles or take journalist photos, using the ideas and inspiration from the morning sessions about the theme. The 7-day programme used methods on non-formal education and learning by doing.
The programme also included a trip to Tartu. We also communicated actively with the local community in the venue of the exchange. The results of the youth exchange were disseminated through social networks, websites and through our partner organisations.
