INTERGENERATIAL GROWING: Slovene philanthropy, an association for promotion of voluntarism, will host two EVS volunteers, one from Turkey and another from Bosnia and Hercegovina. They will live in Slovenia from october2014 until the end of September 2015. They will work in the House ; Fruits of Society - an intergeneration center in Vipava. Because this center is open to all generations, the volunteers will be primarily working in the area of intergeneration education and lifelong learning. The main idea of centre is to exchange knowledge between generations through workshops. We try to find young or older people who are willing to be volunteers and have the kind of knowledge that can be passed to others in the form of workshops, which are free for everybody that would like to participate. We will encourage the EVS volunteers to identify, use and improve the skills they already posses and to acquire new skills and competences. The volunteers will be involved in the whole process; from helping others with their workshops to preparing and presenting two workshops that will be entirely their own creation and could be than transferred to other centers and to Ljubljana. In the afternoon the volunteers will work with the visitors of the centre and will have to follow the wishes and needs of youth and elderly. The volunteers will improve their social skills, while getting to know the local people and environment. They will learn the basics of Slovene language and improve their English.
They will also participate in all main events which our organization organizes, like volunteer festival, immigration movie festival, congresses and so forth. They will attend the events connected with voluntarism like Študentska Arena and LUPA. They will also visit our offices in Ljubljana and Maribor in order to learn how a NGO works.
We want our EVS volunteers to get to know a different culture, to improve their competences true informal learning, to overcome intergenerational stereotypes and also get to know the concept of lifelong learning. The other goal of EVS is to represent different cultures to our volunteers and users, to introduce them to Erasmus+ program and educate them about as many informal learning options as we can.
