Mathematical Labyrinth as a method for increasing the level of knowledge through solving mathematical problems

Context
The proposal addresses to the field specific priority to strengthen the profile of the teaching profession, dealing with complex classroom realities and adoption of new methods and tools. It supports pupils' involvement in learning and offers a pedagogical approach where teachers will become mentors of creativity. Besides teaching knowledge in classroom, the project suggests teachers making students become creative and teaching them how to include mathematics in real-life situations.
Objectives
1. development and usage of an Interactive book with new methodology and an e-learning platform with digital resources
2. development of Guidelines on how to use the MATH-Labyrinth method and the interactive book for teachers and students
3. development of a structured course for Key Action 1 - staff mobility that will be announced by the Partnership
Number and profile of participants
All of the organization partners in this Partnership are experienced in the field of teaching mathematics and they will contribute to a great extent for the realization of the proposal. There is total number of about 30 key persons that will be included with working assignment and in training activities.
Activities
1. selection of staff involved in the project, quality assurance, budget control and time management, risk management, acquisitions, financial reports, archiving, reporting to the National Agency and European Commission
2. intellectual outputs: analysis of students' needs, on-line platform for the method, a guidebook, self evaluation instruments, digital resources for the Method
3. one short-term joint staff training event
4. five multiplier events (2 in Bulgaria, 1 in Macedonia, 1 in Greece and 1 Italy)
5. four transnational project meetings (2 in Macedonia, 1 in Cyprus, 1 in Italy)
6. dissemination activities (within the institutions involved in the project, in other institutions, public events and mass media coverage, publications and scientific events, graphic materials and online dissemination).
Methodology
1. establishment of a communication network, organizational upgrades, informative activities, selection and preparation of participants, specific rules and financial regulations.
2. analysis of the needs of students and teachers that will direct all the other activities: developing the intellectual outputs based on internal expertise and exchanges of good practices during training and teaching assignments, and the process will be evaluated and redirected during the transnational project meetings.
3. follow up phase with multiplier events and direct activities with the target groups: pupils, teachers, trainers, school managers, decision makers and policy makers, representatives of public institutions, including NGOs.
4. dissemination phase with previously defined activities in a dissemination plan
5. announcement of a structured KA1 training course
6. completion of the project with establishing specific tasks of each partner in the sustainability period, reinforcing the partnership and inviting mew partners, planning additional activities and new project to further develop the MATH-Labyrinth method
Results
The main results of the project are the already mentioned as intellectual outputs, other results are:
1. at institutional / organizational level: developing innovative strategies to implement this method in the curricula based on the intellectual outputs and on the experience and expertise gained from the project;
2. activities with the beneficiaries: implementing the methodology developed through this project and the OERs in at least 20 schools in all participating countries, with at least 1000 pupils, 100 teachers and 100 parents and family members attending;
3. at inter-institutional level: partnerships with similar institutions and schools to use OER and ICT in CC
Impact
1. impact on the participants: improved competences regarding CC and usage of OER and online tools for career guidance activities; broader understanding of practices, policies and systems in education, especially regarding CC across Europe;
2. impact on the participating organizations: innovative approaches to addressing their target groups by providing: more attractive approach in teaching, in line with pupils' needs and expectations, use of ICT-based methodologies;
3. impact on target groups: increased competences in Maths using digital resources, OERs and online platform; increased level of digital competence, especially regarding OER and online platform.
The potential long-term benefits
1. new innovative approach to teaching and learning mathematics
2. implementation of the MATH-Labyrinth method in the curricular and extra-curricular activities
3. new partnerships and projects to further enhance the results of this project
