Materials for Innovative Russian learning
Start date: Jan 1, 2010,

Due to economic and cultural reasons there is a growing demand for Russian in the Member States. It is used for the transnational dialogue in business and the industry and it is one of official and working languages in the international organizations (the United Nations, UNESCO, WHO, UNICEF, etc.). At the same time, the current methodology and the materials for learning Russian are often quite traditional and do not meet the educational and cultural priorities of the united Europe. This project will develop supplementary study materials for learning Russian which foster creativity and innovative thinking skills. The underlying methodology of this project is the Thinking Approach to language teaching and learning (see www.thinking-approach.org for more details). The materials will be available in two modes: for e-learning via specially created online learning modules and for work in the classroom. Before being offered to a wider audience, the materials and the online modules will be piloted in each partner country with various types of learners. The feedback received will contribute to the improvement and modification of the products. The finalised version of the online module will include materials for the classroom use, an interactive presentation of the project methodology and information about the project, which will be available in all partner languages. Teachers will also have a possibility to monitor their students' work and provide feedback online. The consortium of this project consists of ten institutions (secondary and tertiary), representing six Member States: Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Italy. There are three more associated partners coming from Sweden, Poland, and Spain. The geographical distribution of partners ensures high dissemination potential. Each partner's existing networks and their involvement in other national and transnational projects contributes to the wide scale impact of the results of this project.
