MATCH AMICAL - Démarques-toi des frontières
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Not only as a mean of social cohesion and get-togethers but also as a showcase for the fight against discrimination and prejudices are sports a response to the social development of individuals. Sports provide the possibility to overcome inhibitions and support the development of positive group dynamics. Besides, when young people are encouraged to approach in a direct and active way, personal and physical barriers can be dismantled. Unfortunately, sports is still today perceived as a male preserve. From the earliest age, boys are encouraged to compete in the sports field. In contrast, it is not well accepted for girls to do certain sport disciplines. This French-German-Macedonian exchange program gives young people the possibility to meet, to share joint experiences and to do sports together. The project is special as the group will only consist of young girls: a girl’s football team from Marseille and female athletes from and Tetovo. Together with the girls, we want to use sports as a mean for participation and integration in order to encourage them to keep on with their paths, regardless of the difficulties they might face sometimes. This project addresses young girls at the age of 14 to 18, who are in need of particular support and who wish to encounter other girls from the partner countries. The group will spend time together at the three phases of the project. The following main activities are planned for the project: • Linguistic exchange to discover the language of the others • Doing sports together (in a club or outside) • Discovering the local situation in Tetovo, Berlin and Marseille • Organising a public tournament or event in the three cities To foster cooperation, we suggest games and activities that address cooperation (like methods found in experimental pedagogy). This can show that sports and games are not necessarily a matter of competition. In contrast, common cooperation games can make more fun than a tournament that always involves winners and losers. Sports are a wonderful medium to gather young people from different countries and backgrounds. Moreover, it facilitates learning languages and making games that address intercultural learning. This intercultural project understands the use of sports, in particular of team sports, as a mean to create a common spirit of young girls from Marseille, Berlin and Tetovo.
