Master in Management of Nuclear Security

In Europe, and worldwide, there is a renewed interest in developing nuclear power programmes as a result of an increased demand for nuclear energy. This will increase the number of reactors at a time when potential malicious acts involving nuclear material are a continuing threat. The consortium will address the need for highly-qualified professionals in the field of Nuclear Security by successfully developing and implementing a full-time and part-time Master of Science Programme as well as a professional Master Programme.The consortium will develop an 18-month curriculum of over 60 ECTS consisting of 4 pilot modules:1. Introductory Module including Nuclear Energy, Nuclear Installations, Radiation Hygiene, Ethics, etc.2. Management Module including Security Policy, Risk Assessment, Crisis Communication etc.3. Technical Module including Repression, Transport, Physical Protection etc.4. Master Module including Academic Skills, a virtual serious game and the Master's Thesis.The Programme will be highly innovative bringing together expertise from 5 distinguished European universities with extensive experience in developing and teaching Master Programmes in English. It will include innovative methods and content, such as blended learning, social media and a serious game. A European alumni network and knowledge management system will be created to disseminate educational products and good practices on European collaboration.The Programme will have an impact on students, professionals, partner organisations and professional and industry organisations. The International Atomic Energy Agency actively supports the consortium. The consortium will be able to maintain the programme after it has been developed, financed from tuition fees and will create a business plan to ensure the optimal use of results by other European universities and institutions.
