Project Manic Mechanics will bring together 25 participants from Spain, Serbia, Portugal and Slovenia, who are working in their local environments dealing with young people, gender equality and equal opportunities. In Europe, gender equality is among the most important objectives. Despite a comprehensive legislative framework in education and training continues to feel the differences between genders, especially in achieving the goals and preferences of educational programs.
In practice Manic Mechanic participants will learn, through creative learning methods, the basics of car mechanics and maintenance of motor vehicles. We want to create as genuine learning experience as possible, so the theory "of how the car works" will be covered through the practical part, in which we will repair and old, disused car and restore it in running state. We want to offer the opportunity to gain basic knowledge of car mechanics, but also draw attention to the unequal position of women in formal education and, especially in allegedly men fields, for example, science, construction, engineering and information technology. The purpose of the project is to promote independence and encouragement in learning new skills and develop competences.
The objectives of the project are:
- To familiarize the participants with the areas that are not traditionally female,
- Overcoming fears traditionally male areas,
- Fix the disused vehicle and reimburse the running state,
- Encouraging creativity,
- Promoting intercultural dialogue,
- Deal with stereotypes and prejudices,
- The promotion and understanding of the concept of gender equality,
- Dissemination of technical knowledge and acquire skills that will help participants in their daily lives,
- Preparation of applications for mobile phones and
- Promoting intergenerational cooperation.
The expected impact on the participants is increased self-esteem and self-confidence, because they themselves will be able to resolve minor problems and repairs on their car, increased solidarity and willingness to cooperate and in conjunction with this increased patience, and increased ability to communicate in a multicultural environment.
