CONTEXT/ BACKGROUND The training course "Making Ideas Happen" is seeking to address the issue of youth unemployment and the urgent need for young people to find a way out of it. Young people have been hit hard by the global economic crisis. There were 4.850 million unemployed young people in the EU-28 area in February 2015. This represents a youth unemployment rate of 21.1 % in the EU-28 and 22.9 % in the euro area which remains more than twice as high as the adult one. Resignation is an increasing concern – 12.6 % of inactive youth wanted to work but were not searching for employment in the third quarter of 2012. There is significant need for training and youth work interventions to promote entrepreneurship as a way to create jobs and wealth for young people and their communities and to make people’s lives better through innovation. AIMS & OBJECTIVES Making Ideas Happen is a training course focusing in entrepreneurship using non formal methods in combination with innovative methods that are already tested in the business world. The general aims of the project are: The general objectives of this projects are: To address the high levels of unemployment and underemployment evident in participating countries; To support the development of entrepreneurial skills necessary to succeed in the creation of a new venture (business/ start-up/ social enterprise/organisation). To build on the capacity of youth organisations in providing entrepreneurial education with the use of non formal education. To strengthen the competences of youth workers to support their target- groups in establishing a new venture. During the training, youth workers, youth leaders and volunteers will learn how to design and implement entrepreneurial activities. The specific objectives of the project are: To help the participants to discover their enterprise skills. To highlight the dynamic nature of entrepreneurship through workshops and practical exercises; To empower the young people to become (social) entrepreneurs by developing creativity and entrepreneurship competences; To promote and develop innovative ideas and share good practices; To share practices and methods to start a new venture; To explore the role of youth work in supporting aspiring young entrepreneurs; To develop new contacts and partnership; To foster cooperation between youth workers and other relevant stakeholders; To make it possible for the participants to be inspired by successful Cypriot Start-Up entrepreneurs and other experts. To promote practical methods of non formal entrepreneurial education; To disseminate the importance or Erasmus+ in changing young people’s lives. NUMBER AND PROFILE OF THE PARTICIPANTS There are going to be 26 participants (and 3 trainers). The participants are going to be youth workers, youth leaders and volunteers with the following characteristics: -motivated to develop their knowledge and skills and to share their experiences with others; -open to other cultures and willing to work on their knowledge, skills and attitudes; -committed to attend for the full duration of the course; -involved in their organisation with an active interest in sharing the learning gained during the training course with the other members; -willing to disseminate what they would acquire in the training and ability to develop projects related to entrepreneurial fields. METHODS During the training course we will utilise 3 kinds of methods (described in detail in part G. Main Activities). A. Non- formal participatory methods. B. Successful methods already used in the business world such as the Business Model Canvas and the Social Business Model Canvas. C. Online Courses (optional). RESULTS & IMPACT With the participation in this educational activity, the young people will improve some of the Key Competencies for Lifelong Learning certified with YOUTHPASS and mainly the Sense of initiative and Entrepreneurship in order to develop innovative ideas; to understand the dynamic nature of entrepreneurship; and to be empowered to become self-employed. The partner organisations are expected to extend the international dimension of their work; to learn about non formal methods in entrepreneurial education; and to disseminate and exploit the project results. The participants will be able to support their organisations to tackle unemployment and other social problems, to multiply the impact of youth work and to raise the visibility of their projects. At local level, the participants will act as multipliers . More young people will learn about the prospects of Erasmus+ . By encouraging new partnerships within the Erasmus+ this project will have a strong European dimension. The partners will disseminate the results within their network of organisations and stakeholders. Moreover, they will exploit the results of the project by creating new activities based on this training course with new audiences.
