Project environment:The social structure for hosting children called "Maison relais", is a day care centre for children before and after school and school holiday time, for kids aged from 2 months to 12 years. Since September 2001 the “Maison Relais” are opened. There are about 850 inscriptions in different "Maison Relais" of the commune, which means 55% of the children who visit kindergarden and primary school. The different "Maison relais" are located in several villages of the municipality. The "Maisons Relais" are located in the municipality of Sanem in the Southwest of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. There are families from 13 different nationalities living there.Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:In a multicultural, multilingual and multi religious environment the volunteer will learn to accept and to respect other opinions.As non formal learning the volunteer will be trained in autonomy, in social relationship, in team work and in safety and quality environment for children.We plan to host at least one EVS volunteer per year for a period between 8 - 12 months. The role of the EVS volunteer in the Host Organisation:The volunteer will be introduced to his tasks by a supervisor to the pedagogical team and the children. He/she participate in the daily activities in different "Maison Relais". The weekly schedule of the volunteer will be quite flexible. Normally the volunteer will assist at midday and in the afternoons, He/she will help the younger children to eat lunch or snacksHe/she will assist in supervising children during the meals and by doing the home workThe volunteer will never be alone on the project, but he/she will be able to use his/her imagination to develop socio educative activities, games and so on… for children at different ages.Activities in which the volunteer could be involved:Educative tasks:An important task will be the guidance for children in different activities. The volunteer will help children with home work after school for different lessons (French and/or German and maths). According to his/ her interest and ability we invite the volunteer to contribute with his/ her own creativity.He/she will be helping in organising and running indoor and outdoor activities for children respecting their age.He/she will be involved in organising different workshops like cooking, baking, painting…. He/she could show the traditions and culture of his/ her country, also giving insights on the language, cultural differences and daily live traditions.Gender aspects: He/she will help to promote gender equality for girls and boys.Research task:Part of our structure's pedagogic concept is to promote a healthy nutritional education. With a new law in this field the role of the "Maison Relais" in the future structure "whole day school", will be redefined. Therefore it is important for us to have information on the current situation and on the evolution and results of the activities already in place.We would ask the volunteer to help us collect and evaluate information with the help of questionnaires and interviews.
