The project “IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF THE TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS IN SCHOOL: A COMPETENT TEACHER – A COMPETITIVE STUDENT” According to the priorities of the school Development Plan Year 2013-2017 the improvement and development of teachers’ professional competence are vitally important. For this reason the project, focusing on these priorities which provide long-term and successive school development, has been designed. Therefore, the aims of the project are:- ensuring teachers’ professional competence development;- development of school teaching process according to modern educational needs and demands;- implementation of the innovative foreign language teaching methodology;- improving teachers’ foreign language skills; - designing and integrating new German and CLIL programmes;- acquiring the best European innovative experience;- development of intercultural competences;- establishing new cooperation;- internationalization of the school, improving European dimension, involving teachers into international project activities and participating in international courses and seminars in different European countries.Seven teachers are involved in the project: a teacher of German, three teachers of English, a career counsellor and geography teacher, two CLIL teachers who work in primary and secondary school and take an active part in different international projects. The project secures teachers’ participation in international training courses and a seminar having long-term experience, providing high quality professional development in collaboration with European Ministries of Education and Erasmus+ programmes. The teachers will improve their professional competence in order to ensure efficient and high quality teaching and learning process and to prepare competitive students for living in the modern European community, to motivate students for getting further high quality education, to implement school foreign language and CLIL programmes in classes, as well as to develop new consistent training programmes in this field, to improve/perfect their language skills, to get acquainted with the culture of English and German speaking countries and with novelties in the English and German languages, to develop European dimension, to internationalize school, involving pupils and teachers into international project activities.Owing to the participation in the project the following school`s objectives and desired outcomes will be achieved:- to adapt, pilot and apply the acquired knowledge and the innovative methodology during lessons and after-school activities;- to integrate CLIL approach into the English syllabus;- to involve students and teachers into international project activities;- to promote the choice of career and students’ preparation for real life;- to implement the accredited shorten German language programme in primary school with the reduced number of lessons per week and to develop German language learning programme for secondary school, in accordance with the principle of continuity;- to expand the school methodological database with the teaching materials for German, English language and CLIL lessons;- to start learning geography through the medium of the English language;- to design and pilot a new CLIL programme in geography;- to find, summarize and display informative materials on the study options, conditions and requirements in Europe on the school’s website and in the methodological base, which will be used for the career events and extra-curricular activities;- to continue collaboration with the partners of already ongoing Erasmus+ projects in foreign languages, and to establish European school partnership with new participants to engage in new international cooperation. The value of the project is in providing cooperation opportunities with multicultural fellow participants and with native speakers in natural language environment outside Latvia, and in gaining a huge variety of new teaching ideas and experience of other European nationalities. The significance of the project is in personal competence development of the participants, as well as in obtaining European awareness, increasing self-confidence, improving teachers’ English and German language skills, developing social, collaborative, organizational, technical skills.
