The main origin of this project is to develop solidarity and promote tolerance among young people, in particular in order to foster social cohesion in the European Union. As foundation Maarja Village is a live-in community for people with intellectual disability, we offer volunteers an unique possibility to explore the life of disabled people.
Our project also promotes young people’s active citizenship in general and their European citizenship in particular. For example, volunteers being with us at the moment and previous volunteers are actively involved in the process of application and in searching for new volunteers. Maarja Village – a bridge between people project is ongoing process and our volunteers are included actively not only to participation of village everyday life, but also included to different initiatives that include project writing, working with other NGOs, being active citizen of Europe.
During our project, volunteers will contribute to develop the quality of support systems for youth activities and the capabilities of civil society organisations in the youth field. In our budget, every volunteer will receive funds for 300-350 euros to develop their own initiative project in the field on creating support systems for activities for young people with intellectual disability. Volunteers are also encouraged to be part of civil society organisations in Tartu (Genialistide Klubi etc.).
In the field of promoting European cooperation in the youth field, Foundation Maarja Village is a member of the differents networks started by Cardiff Youth Clubs in Wales and Gazi Universitesi in Ankara. Our goal is to promote European co-operation, especially in the field of the youth with special needs. Volunteer of Maarja Village – a bridge between people project is included as contributer of ideas and helping out with activities.
