Our vocational high school Louise Michel in Ruffec has had since September 2012 a European section in Spanish for our final year administration and management students, who mostly come from rural and disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds. This mobility project with Soria in Castille and Leon has been in place since 2011 and has expanded from one to four Spanish businesses, and we hope that it will continue to grow (it is mainly a question of the town council’s participation). Each year, around ten students are eligible to go abroad. The program methodology follows the following criteria: 1. Launching of the program with the agreement of the headmaster 2. Finding foreign businesses and creating relationships with new professional partners 3. Researching lodging for the students 4. Researching funding (Erasmus+, Poitou-Charentes regional scholarships) 5. Advertising and distributing information for future students about the selection among most motivated 6. Participating partners sign the agreement 7. Administrative and language preparation for the participating students 8. Verification of logistical means 9. Planning of a provisional budget 10. Obtaining the high school’s administrative council’s permission 11. Financial report of the project by the school’s accountant 12. Students complete their professional and linguistic trip abroad 13. Assessment of work placements and certified evaluation for the obtainment of Management and Administrative Baccalauréat The vocational trip falls within the 22 obligatory weeks outlined by the reference certification. In Soria in Spain, the participants will be able to develop their professional skills consistent with those practised in French businesses (secretarial work, accounting, computer literacy, customer service, work related to personnel administration, processing of records and files, management of business documents, filing, archiving). They will receive a final evaluation which will count towards their exam. The students will have an exceptional opportunity to take advantage of their role as a European citizen and to develop their language skills to the B2 level from contact with new people and native Spanish speakers. To better prepare for their trip, the students already benefit from enhanced language training with a NLD (non-linguistic diploma) teacher who works in close collaboration with the LV2 Spanish teacher as well as the Spanish assistant (a Peruvian in 2011, an Andalusian in 2012, and a Mexican in 2013) on Communication and Organisational skills in Spanish with the students. During their stay in Spain, the cultural and professional benefits they will receive will be the subject of their presentations for the Baccalauréat exam. The students will write a report about their trip which will serve during their oral exam for the European section as support before a panel of examiners, who will question them about their work placement. This way, they will have the possibility to obtain a “European section” mention on their Baccalauréat diploma. Finally, our mobility program makes sense since it validates a vocational education, provides access to a European training course, and encourages the students to become European citizens, and facilitates their success in the work market: their Europass mobility distinguishes them from others and promotes their employability.
