LOVE IT, LIVE IT, RIGG IT
Start date: Jul 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Momentum World wishes to co-ordinate and host a year long EVS placement for 2 volunteers to work at a busy residential youth centre in the beautiful town of Keswick in the heart of the English Lake District National Park. This will provide an opportunity for those young people to learn new skills highly relevant to future working life. Reliable partners from Poland and Spain (Tenerife) have been identified. The objectives of the project are: -To offer an opportunity for relevant work experience to build volunteers cv's and enhance future employability - To improve competences in youth work as a pathway to future employment - To improve language skills - To give an opportunity to take leadership positions - To enhance intercultural awareness The issues and needs we seek to address are the biggest ones of all in our society i.e. crippling youth unemployment throughout Europe. Young people need hope, they need help and they need opportunities like this . We would look to place 2 volunteers for the duration of the project. Activities planned are; 1. On arrival training 2. Two weeks induction training 3. Assisting more experienced youth workers delivering residential programmes including team building, music, drama, group reflection sessions, outdoor games and other wider ranging outdoor activities 4. On going workshops on youth training & facilitation skills 5. Gradual increase in responsibility through further training to enable volunteers to lead on activities. 6. Mid term evaluation 7. Assistance with administration 8. Intercultural and social occasions 9. Open days meeting local people 10. Regular mentoring and support meetings including youthpass 11. Final evaluation and Youthpass session There is maximum use of non formal education methods at the Centre and a great deal of emphasis placed on healthy living through outdoor exercise and sport. The expected impact for the volunteers is; - Improved skills for employability - Improved language skills - New networks of professional friends - New organisational and leadership skills - Greater intercultural understanding For partner organisations; - Widening scope of operations - Deepening successful relationships with partners - A broader offer to potential volunteers Longer term, we would like to grow this offer and take on additional volunteers to work in other areas of need in this region.
