Logistics and Supply Chain Management 2020: training for the future
Start date: Oct 1, 2012,
The European Logistics sector faces a number of major challenges. Flows of goods are expected to double by 2020 resulting in increased environmental pressure, pressure on infrastructure, shortages of logistic personnel and a growing need for multimodal transport. Traditional logistic concepts are not sufficient to cope with today’s demands. This has enormous consequences for senior professionals in this field. The traditional role of the logistic manager with a focus on planning, forecasting&operations management has to change towards a chief supply chain officer who operates on a strategic level, has multi-disciplinary skills and an international field of operation. This requires new knowledge and skills. Current (post) academic education focuses on traditional logistics and job profiles. There is an urgent need for new education programmes. In LOG2020 a consortium of network partners (Dinalog, EffizienzCluster), universities (University of Technology Eindhoven, University of Lund, Venice International University, Technical University of Dortmund) and business schools (Antwerp Management School) will develop 5 state of the art multidisciplinary modules for continuous education at post academic level for logistic professionals. Currently, there is no international post academic programme for this target group. The results of LOG2020 can be exploited in the partners’ and other European regions. The shared educational (e-learning) content will be used in the new programme, but can also be used by the partners individually. LOG2020 will contribute to a new profile of the logistic & supply chain professional, strengthening the sector to face new challenges. It contributes to a well-balanced European logistic & supply chain curriculum by filling a gap at strategic level. It will stimulate mobility and transfer of knowledge and skills in a European context. Finally, it provides the opportunity to adapt the curriculum to future changes and to update regular curricula.
