Local in Global 2014/15
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Local in Global is a four-part exchange and training project which forms part of the Education for Sustainable Development Programme (ESD). It uses and develops specially arranged plan-games as innovative methods in ESD. The core component of the project is the Krapowa Game, which was developed by the KI in cooperation with experts in youth training. In this game, the participants assume various roles in the political and civil society scene of a small, rural town in east-central Europe, in order to develop effective strategies against complex problem situations which have reciprocal aggravating impact, such as deindustrialisation, migration, ageing population increase, environmental issues as well as defects in infrastructure. For the benefit of the participants, our aim is, above all, to increase understanding for the types of problem which arise in the area of sustainable development and to convey positive experiences, empowerment and best-practice examples. For the benefit of multiplicators and participating partner organisations, we wish to contribute to a further increase in the diversity of the plan-game, in order to gain the interest of other target groups in Education for Sustainable Development, such as disadvantaged youths or persons with disabilities. In addition, we experiment with innovative approaches, such as, for example, by creating a direct association between training and workshop elements and the content of plan-games. In the long term, we hope that, by educating trainers, we can produce an effect on multiplicators, who then also pass on the methods and content of their training to other groups of persons who have not directly participated. The intention is to achieve this by appropriate training as well as by unrestricted availability of and access to the content of the plan-games. For those participating, we expect deeper insights into the complex and multi-layered topic sustainability, an increase in employability through the learning of practical skills, as well as increased consciousness of social questions and diversity issues by involvement of disadvantaged individuals and persons with a disability from all participant countries.
