LICK in Macedonia - Capacity building for those working with socially excluded young people
Start date: Jul 17, 2014, End date: Apr 16, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

In the autumn of October 2014 when, following the summer season, energies are low and motivation is lacking, 30 participants will excitedly gather together from 10 Programme and SEE countries and be hosted in the historical town of Vinica in the Republic of Macedonia. They will be drawn together by the hot topic of those most vulnerable in society, specifically socially excluded young people, to explore what they can do to raise them up, change their focus and provide them with renewed hope for the future. Some will have first-hand experience of social exclusion and others will have a good working knowledge of how it feels to be embedded in communities where this is endemic. We will give clarity and guidance to Erasmus+, enabling and empowering those support workers to increase and improve the number of worthwhile youth projects in Europe. Diminishing numbers of youth service staff and other public sector services across a Europe, drowning in excruciatingly high figures of youth unemployment, means that now more than ever, our help is needed and crucially through a learning journey of experiential learning for this particular target group. Calling on the expertise of a unique and highly skilled team of experienced international trainers, the group will be led through a valuable and effective 5 days of non-formal learning, scaffolded from a wealth of knowledge gleaned over many years. This well-established team are not only members of their National Agencies’ Trainers' Pools in the UK and Bulgaria, but also highly skilled EFL and ESOL tutors. We are offering a package that comprises the integration of language and communication skills with the focus on disadvantaged young people on the margins of society to empower the learners with the tools and knowledge that will enable them to work more effectively on both a local and international level. The remarkably high response to LICK calls to date has proven that there is a great need for this kind of training : Language Integrated Content Kits - Capacity Building for organisations across Europe. Both Programme and Neighbouring countries have already had the benefit of other LICK training courses in the UK and we are now providing the opportunity for the team to extend its folio of expertise and to explore this agenda in Macedonia on the first deadline of what promises to be a magnificent 7 years of international youth work ahead of us.
