The Erasmus + Youth in Action program created great impact on numbers of young people all over Europe, developing young people’s competences, self confidence and offering the unique international experience.Being aware of this amassing opportunity that Erasmus + Youth in Action program offer and provide possibilities for mobility of young people with fewer opportunities on one hand but on the other hand young people with disabilities still have very limited access to these opportunities, they are not so visible on trainings, youth exchanges or EVS (European Voluntary Service). There are various reasons for this: being in a vulnerable situation (social barriers, lacking family support, poverty, limited qualifications, unemployment, inaccessibility of environment and limited access to information). Also most of the hosting organizations/ youth works/ trainers don’t have enough capacities (knowledge and experiences) to develop programs and activates that can be accessible for everyone including people with disabilities. This project aim at building capacities of the youth organizations from EU and Western Balkans on how to be prepared to include more young people with disabilities on their projects and activities, as well this project will directly include young people with disabilities strengthening their competences and on this way building capacities of their organizations. Each person and each group is different, so it is very important to adapt the project to the target group and to establish the programme with the target group. The young people should be the centre of the whole project, from the start to the end. In order to optimize personal achievement and growth, the so-called 3 Cs could guide us: challenge, capacity and connection (Jans and De Backer).People with disabilities are people with equal rights. People with disabilities are workers, consumers, taxpayers, politicians, students, neighbours, family and friends. But people with disabilities are not always treated that way.A recent European survey shows there is a serious lack of understanding of what disability means and how many people it affects. People with disabilities should be treated as equal citizens who have the power to speak for themselves, not as objects of pity or charity. People with disabilities are often excluded from society through poor education and unemployment, leading to poverty.“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”- Albert EinsteinWith this project we want to train youth peers, youth workers, and trainers providing them with competences to work with people with disabilities and to recognize their potentials and talents to lead them to fulfilment of their life and dreams, that's what for youth work should stand up for.
