Mjesovita industrijsko – obrtnicka skola (short MIOS) conducts the self-evaluation on an annual basis. On the basis of the SWOT analysis, we have come to conclusion that we need to improve the quality of our institution and raise the attractiveness of the vocational education it offers. We have determined the advantages and disadvantages of our school, and created development plan and strategy of internationalization for MIOS. As an institution, we want our students to be satisfied with the programs MIOS offers and we want to contribute to reducing the students’ drop-out rates. In order to achieve this, we need to work on improving the quality and effectiveness of teaching, using different methods, styles of teaching and learning and information and communication technology. We need to invest in the personal and professional development of employees through professional training at home and abroad and to collaborate with other institutions in international mobility projects of VET learners and staff. MIOS has been participating in the LLP and Erasmus+ program since 2009. 66 students and 28 teachers have taken part and visited 11 European countries. With this project, that goes under the title "Let's go VET", we want to go in line with the European strategy of internationalization and develop school by strengthening its capacity, make it more attractive for students, not only to increase the number of enrolled students, but to decrease the students’ drop-out rates. Our partner organization in this project is the Kroatische Wirtschaftsvereinigung from Frankfurt a/M, Germany. Eighteen MIOS students (10 hairdressers, 4 tilers, 4 drywallers) and two accompanying teachers will be sent on vocational practical placements in selected companies. A two-week mobility in Germany is planned for late February / early March 2017. With this project we want to increase the number of students and teachers participating in international mobility. We want to contribute to increasing the quality and attractiveness of vocational education and to contribute to reducing the number of students who drop out of school and to add school MIOS an international dimension. The content of the vocational training will be tailored to the needs of vocational students. The expected impact for hairdressers is gained knowledge about organizing the work of the hair salon through reception, improved way of communication with their customers, acquisition of new skills (hot oil treatments, botox and keratin hair treatments, dying techniques - ombre, sombre, balayage). The expected impact for tilers is gained knowledge about coating the walls and floors with stone, brick and gravel effects, restoring and replacing ceramic tiles, safe handling and maintaining new tools and equipment for installation of ceramic products and shaping the staircase. The expected impact for drywallers is gained knowledge about mounting the plasterboards on concrete walls and ceilings, mounting the partition walls with metal substructure, applying wood coverings, mounting the insulation layers in a residential attic of the large building block and installing a wood framed suspended drywall ceiling. In addition, the students will be encouraged to learn and use foreign language, will better understand foreign culture, increase self-esteem and self-confidence. Students will be more motivated to continue their education. This will have a positive impact on other students at school. The expected impact for students is also improved learning experience, acquisition of new skills and competences they require for their work in their chosen field of training, better cultural awareness and better understanding of foreign culture, increased self-esteem through the use of a foreign language. The expected impact on MIOS is the creation of new international connections, improvement of future project proposals, demonstration of the need for participation in European programs, contribution to the promotion of vocational education in the Republic of Croatia. Possible long-term impact is to make school MIOS more attractive to young people and to become the leader of the consortium for projects that would have a greater impact on vocational education in Croatia in terms of better linking vocational education with the needs of the modern labor market.
