Lernen durch Lehren im Ausland: Lehrkräfte im Vorbereitungsdienst an beruflichen Schulen in Hessen unterrichten in Finnland und Estland
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The mobility project to be applied for is about teacher trainees of the German federal state Hesse who are sent to two vocational schools in Voru/Estonia and Jyväskylä/ Finland to teach their mostly academic subjects to Estonian or Finnish learners within a time period of three weeks. These teacher trainees are sent to the Vorumaa Kutsehariduskeskus in southeast Estonia and to the Jyväskylä Vocational College in central Finland twice a year. The total number of trainees to be sent abroad is 24. Each mobiltiy within the project period of 2015-2017 takes place in autumn and spring when three beneficiaries travel to Estonia and three to Finland. The mobility project is voluntary and it is part of the preparatory service of teacher trainees that lasts 21 months in Hesse and which ends with the Second State Exam, enabling Hessian teachers to teach their subjects as civil servants at every vocational school in Germany. The Hessian preparatory service is being organized by an institution which is called "Landesschulamt und Lehrkräfteakademie Hessen" / "Central Hessian School Board and Teacher Academy". The mobility project is a chance for teacher candidates to go abroad in order to make themselves familiar with the education system of the country in question. The purpose of the mobility project is to promote their competencies in the field of intercultural learning. Thus the mobility project strongly aims at enhancing the subject-related, personal, social and pedagogical competences of the teacher trainees. Additionally the mobility project wishes to make the beneficiaries sensitive towards a so-called European consciousness which is regarded as all the more so important since Europe is currently facing some severe crises in Greece and in the Ukraine. That is why the beneficiaries teaching in southeast Estonia will be offered the chance to visit a vocational school in nearby Pskov/Russia which has been cooperating with the Vorumaa Kutsehariduskeskus for some years. In the long run the purpose of the mobiltiy project is to win the teacher trainees as multiplicators of future international school cooperations at their schools after having successfully finished their preparatory service. The "Central Hessian School Board and Teacher Academy" has been cooperating with the Kutsehariduskeskus in Voru for many years and with the Jyväskylä Vocational College since 2014 in the context of previous Leonardo-da-Vinci mobility projects. The project monitoring is being carried out by the Hessian teacher trainer and project coordinator Ralf Hölzer-Germann and his Estonian and Finnish colleagues, Henn Tarro/Voru and Rea Tuominen/ Jyväskylä who are all very- experienced in European mobility projects.
