Lernen, Arbeiten und Leben in Irland
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Background and aims of the project and long-term benefits: As an educational institution we regard it as one of our fundamental tasks to prepare the trainees as well as possible for their future working environment. Companies are increasingly in contact with overseas business partners and in this connection ever higher demands are made on their employees. Only if they are able to address these demands do employees have good career prospects. We want to to contribute to this through our project “Learning, Working and Living in Ireland”. We also want to better define the profile of our vocational education centre, by marking the beginning of the internationalisation of our school through the project we have applied for. Our project is to be the starting point for further international projects not only in the vocational school but also for the associated school for specialised vocations. In this way, we hope to improve the cooperation between the two partners, to raise the attractiveness of the specialised vocational training and in the long run make a contribution to strengthen the economic potential of the district of Amberg-Sulzbach. With the international training in a genuine, international environment the participants should be able to improve their skills in business English, as well those skills necessary for the responsibility of decision-making, which they have already acquired in Germany. In addition, they should acquire new skills and then incorporate these in the company providing their training and also be able to benefit from them in their own professional future. With the accommodation in host families and participation in the accompanying programme which is offered, (optional) participants should improve their general language skills and have the opportunity to make progress in their own personal development. Our project should also assist in enhancing the trainees' understanding for the necessity and the positive effect of a united Europe and a common currency. Number and profile of the participants 10 students in their second or third year of the courses in office management and industrial office management are to take part in this project. Some of the participants have already completed an additional Chamber of Commerce qualification in English for foreign language correspondence clerks. The trainees have completed their secondary education to 'O' or 'A' level and have reached a level of B1 in English, according the Common European Framework. Additionally, they have already a basic knowledge of business English from their vocational school course. All students are over 18. The trainees come from very different types of companies in the region. These include major companies in the automotive branch as well as small companies offering traditional trades. For these trainees from smaller companies Erasmus + mobility often offers the only possibility to take part in an overseas industrial work placement. Description of activities and procedure for carrying out the project In November 2015 we would like to offer the trainees in our vocational school a three-week mobility, entailing a one-week English course plus a two-week work placement in Ireland. The participants will be in host families and take part in social and cultural events. A comprehensive preparation (E-learning, package, meetings) will be held in Germany beforehand. During the mobility the progress made by the participants will be monitored by local teachers, the host families and in the companies where the work placement is being held. The evaluation of the success in attaining the pre-determined objectives, will be made by the partner organisation at the end of the project. Both organisations will allow evaluation by all participants, in order to carry out future schemes / projects more effectively also in regard to participants' needs. Results and objectives aimed to be achieved The actual learning objectives for the participants will be laid out in detail, according to the ecvet-concept of the European Union.
