Learning the Community Development

The project ¨Learning the Community Development¨ is an EVS that will support the community development of Jitpur region in Nepal and Kisumu region of Kenya. The aim of this project is to empower marginalised communities, with a focus on women and children, through enhanced educational programs and community training to promote equality, economic well-being and basic human rights. The project will be implemented in in Nepal, the poorest country in South Asia (24.7% of the people live below the poverty line $1.27, over 3 million youths have migrated to other countries to find Jobs and over 18% of the children are lucking education and women’s literacy rate is less than 34.9%), and Kenya in the peri-urban areas of Kisumu. The community has total population of approximately 1 million population, most of the people living here lives below 1$ a day, they lack adequate clean drinking water, the youth is over 60% of total population. The area is characterized with high HIV/AIDs rate, malaria infection, high infant mortality and most children are orphans.During the 5 months activities in Nepal and 6 months activity in Kenya, the total of 16 EVS volunteers from the region of Murcia, Spain, and Region of Marche in Italy will have the opportunity to build their individual skills and competences by living in a different culture, cooperating in intercultural team working communities leaded by professionals and supervised by mentors who will help them to achieve the objectives of the project and be more open minded and sensitive towards a different social, cultural, political and economical structures.
