Learning Groups - WE CAN DO IT!
Learning Groups - WE CAN DO IT!
End date: Aug 23, 2015
PROJECT
FINISHED
"Learning Groups - WE CAN DO IT!" is aimed at capacity building and skills development for learners with intellectual disabilities, in the context of informal learning, and based on unique empowerment provided by shared, international experience for the learners. Project partners all work with persons with learning disabilities, and are keen to share and develop best practices in the field. In this project, we hope to increase capacity and independence of learners with disabilities, to raise their self-esteem and, as a result, achieve a higher degree of participation and integration -- and the sense of "WE-CAN"! This is achieved by means of forming peer "Learning Groups" (persons with disabilities, their advocates, families, therapists, etc.). Learning Groups are working on local projects they select and create democratically. Thus, with learners' active participation, each organisation is developing a program of local activities, suitable for their context, with the view to sharing experience with international partners. Activities synergize during joint workshops, events, and study visits, clustered around project meetings (one in each partner country), attended by learners and staff on allocated mobilities. This provides inspiration and added value of learning from each other. In the spirit of self-advocacy and awareness-building, Learning Groups present and promote themselves to different players in the local community: to show them, in a positive way, learners' needs, ambitions, talents, and achievements. Project process is be duly documented and monitored, via multimedia "Learning Groups' Chronicles" (using ICT tools such as blog/website/FB), later developed into the "We Can Do It! Project Book from A to Z", presenting project experiences and results.
