Learning Community Migration and Minorities: Platf..
Learning Community Migration and Minorities: Platform for Teachers and Teacher Educators
Start date: Jan 1, 2014,
The aim of LeaCoMM is to set up a platform for teachers in Europe who are working with a multicultural, multi-ethnic, multilingual and multi-religious student body. There has been a sharp rise in the number of such classes of students throughout Europe. The qualifications available to teachers do not yet meet the associated demands for cross-cultural competences. LeaCoMM caters for the need for qualification opportunities for teachers in this priority area. LeaCoMM is a platform for teachers in an intercultural environment. Alongside a general ‘Library and Research Area’, a second area offers teaching materials which have been produced and successfully used by teachers. A third area offers modules relating to direct intercultural and cross-cultural qualifications, tailored specifically to the needs of teachers. The fourth area of LeaCoMM is a forum for direct interaction between teachers. Objectives:- Importance of integrating immigrants and ethnic minorities into the school and education system – Improving qualifications among teachers and teacher trainers and raising awareness among those responsible in the school administration – Systematic use of the Internet as a resource-efficient, location-independent, interactive teacher-training tool; Aims/desired outcomes:- Development of a shared Internet platform on subjects of migration/ethnic minorities and schools – Development of quality criteria on the basis of professional teaching standards – Raising awareness and promoting qualifications among central actors and those responsible for teacher training – Increased awareness of the need for diversity-aware teacher training – Increased capacity for intercultural discourse and international cooperation.
