“Learning by doing, living by working” was a Comenius multilateral school partnership between 7 special schools and mainstream schools with integrated pupils from: Portugal, Poland, England, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain and Romania (coordinator). The partnership aim was to devise and implement activities for SEN children by different age and deficiency in 5 workshops: Arts and Handcrafts ; Music and Dance, Drama and Play; Garden and Kitchen; Work field guidance; Sport, each having final activities and/or final product. Through monthly activities of the workshops, but also through different occasional international and national activities, some practical skills helpful in every day life and future job life of special educational needs pupils were developed. Beside these workshops for pupils we also developed and ruled 2 support groups for adults under workshops themes: for teachers and for parents, considered to be important educational actors but also important resource under this project. All the work and experience was synthesized on the final products and activities of our project: booklet with DVD about how to implement a workshop; web page; study research about SEN pupils integration in different countries in Europe; school and professional orientation, including employment documents guide/booklet; project mascot - the thematic clock; pictures calendar; mobile exhibitions; thematic trips; music, dance and drama performances; DVD with music, dance and stories; illustrated booklet with story and games; traditional food booklet. Project final goal was to prove to our communities the importance and need for this “protected workshop” structure and took the first steps towards developing workshops over a large scale, also through "SEN Association: Support Education Network" started in Romania, which was created to support the implementation of the protected workshops when the rules of schools functioning can not find the legal way.
