Project Background and ParticipantsThe main aim of the immersion course for Saint Michael’s Primary School is to further the learning and teaching of the French language and culture for all.Through collective experience and participation of all 7 applicants in initial 1+2 Approach training, our teachers are equipped with the principal knowledge of teaching French enhancing our cultural experiences in Lyon respectively. Currently all 11 classes are learning the French language throughout daily and weekly routines of a Roman Catholic school. This is achieved by incorporating French vocabulary and culture in planning and implementation of a range of contexts including daily prayer. Saint Michael’s Primary cherish the fundamental relationships with our families and community. We recently celebrated our interrelationships and successes in our language learning through a French Open Day. This rewarding event enabled our pupils to share in their success whilst experiencing the French culture through a relaxed and authentic ethos. Through parental involvement and partnership with our local community, our school have developed a shared vision for the cultural and educational teaching and learning of French. Objectives of Saint Michael’s ProjectWe aim to:• Foster a range of pedagogical approaches in order to provide a variety of teaching methods, and a bank of resources and ideas to cater for all learners• Demonstrate the importance of life-long learning by sharing experiences with young learners through a range of social media and IT during and on return of Immersion Course E.g. Twitter page @SMPG1964, stmichaelsfrancais Glow Blog, ETwinning, video and audio recordings of French dialogue, photographs etc.• Immerse fully in the culture of France by establishing relationships with other professionals and native French speakers to be maintained through professional use of social media• Secure a strong educational network across Inverclyde and Scotland ensuring the sharing of good practice by maintaining valuable contact with Lyon 2016 applicants and professionals.• To enhance teachers’ communication of both written and oral French in order to strengthen the quality of French teaching and learning and promote the language learning for staff and pupils alike • Gain GTC Scotland personal accreditation.Activities:Our team will collegiately partake in the LFEE designed programme with enthusiasm. Through this accelerated and intense course we aim to fully embark on our development of French a in order to maximise learning opportunities. Activities planned by LFEE aim to foster language development and cultural appreciation through real life experiences in Lyon.In relation to the collegiate aims of LFEE and 1+2 Approach, Saint Michael’s Primary will build upon current teaching and learning experiences in French in order to develop our pupils’ views of the French culture and language at all levels. On return, our grateful applicants will be equipped with a wealth of knowledge and will have gained GTCS accreditation which will enable us to develop French language within our school, local authority and through genuine partnerships between Scottish and French professionals.
