John Donne Primary School is an outstanding school with a children and staff from diverse backgrounds. We value all of our staff and want all of them to receive high quality training and have a deeper understanding of education in a European context. In the next 2 years we want our teachers to receive high quality language training and our leadership team to feel confident in that they are delivering best practice across the school. The introduction of compulsory language learning in Key Stage 2 from September 2014 means that we need teachers who are able to deliver language learning to an acceptable standard. With the introduction of language learning there will also need to be an increased development of the European dimension within schools both from a teaching and learning and management position. In order to achieve these objectives we will: send 16 teachers and teaching assistants across Key Stage 1 and 2 to language courses at Malaga instituto in Spain. send 15 teachers and teaching assistants across Key Stage 1 and 2 to training courses in Southwark's partner region of Gran Canaria, Spain, in Greece and in Portugal. send 6 members of senior leadership team to training courses in Greece, Finland and Spain. Work to establish this reciprocal training between the relevant local authorities has already begun. All municipalities will be working together to ensure the stringent dissemination of these training programmes. The results of this programme will be that: a) staff in John Donne are confident and able to deliver high-quality language lessons which enable pupils to leave the school confident in speaking Spanish b) the school produces leaders who are highly skilled and reflective. They will have an understanding of different education systems and be able to compare and contrast different models of leadership and the impact of different cultural expectations on the education system c) Staff who have had the experience of working or training in a different European country will have a deeper understanding of their role and increased knowledge of the way that different cultures deliver education. The impact of this project will be more confident staff who are able to deliver high quality language lessons. There will also be an impact on the quality of leadership and also on the quality of training received by the leadership team. This will be the same for staff who take part in courses and work shadowing programmes. This will also have the effect on improving the reputation of the school as it becomes recognised for valuing and training staff to a high standard. The longer term benefits of the whole project will be the effect of the project on the quality of education delivered by the school. A motivated, skilled and well trained workforce who are reflective practicioners will directly impact on the quality of provision and the engagement of pupils in the school. The motivation of receiving innovative and relevant international training will help the school to retain valued staff as well as attracting new staff to be recruited into the school.
