„Language Connects“ is a project which deals with the support and appreciation of multilingualism in primary school, and shall continue and deepen the work on the current project "Language Connects". This topic is highly relevant for primary school Rötzergasse: More than 90% of the pupils have other first languages than German, the language of instruction. At the focus of the project “Language Creates” are creativity in language teaching, especially regarding German as a Second language and English.„Language Creates“ significantly involves headmistress Gerlinde Holzinger and a team consisting of seven class and team teachers.The project duration is 12 months, it starts July 1st, 2016 and ends June 30th, 2017. At the beginning of the project all participants will attend various teacher training courses on language, multiculturalism and education:o Elisabeth Simhandl und Doris Zwickle, "Creative Teaching in the Primary Classroom", Lake School Oxford, United Kingdomo Anna Niemirowicz und Elisabeth Köbke, "School management", eduKarjala, Finnlando Manuela Lenker, Bettina Fugger und Derya Cicek, „Early Foreign Language Learning", CLyLT Summer School, GrieeceResults will be disseminated on one hand formally, through conferences, internal project meetings, eTwinning and school website, and on the other hand also informally, through conversation with colleagues at primary school Rötzergasse or other institutions. Different materials on project relevant topics will be offered to all teachers at primary school Rötzergasse. Furthermore, the teacher library will be extended with specialist literature.One of the goals of "Language Creates" is to sensitize teachers regarding multilingualism and multiculturalism. They shall be professionalized in using creative methods in language teaching.The process of internationalization in primary school Rötzergasse and the networking with other schools in Europe will be promoted and used for further projects and cooperation.Main target groups of the project “Language Creates” are the pupils and teachers at primary school Rötzergasse. Appreciation of different languages and cultures, the cooperation with other European schools and the use of new methods in language teaching shall have positive effects on the learning processes of the pupils and the professionalizing of the teachers.The internationalization of primary school Rötzergasse has an influence on teachers and pupils. They shall experience the European dimension and act as active European citizens. Pupils and teachers will spread their experiences within their communities. The local community will also be addressed through the use of eTwinning, the school website and eventually local media.“Language Creates” will encourage our school, the teachers, pupils and local community to experience the importance of language and cultures and will strengthen the European dimension in primary school Rötzergasse.
