Wider Objective:Project LAPIS aims to build the capacity for effective modern European language teaching at schools in Turkmenistan, and to raise the quality of training of foreign language teachers in the sector (English, German, French). Specific Objectives: • To establish a National Resource Centre to support the training of foreign language teachers under the aegis of the Ministry of Education to raise the standards of teaching foreign languages in Turkmenistan.• To establish a branch of the NRC at Turkmenabat for the eastern region of the country.• To modernise methodologies for training foreign language teachers and develop quality assurance measures in pre-service training for foreign language teachers.• To develop materials and methodologies for in-service training for foreign language teachers, including CLIL and TBL.• To modernise practices in teaching practice for trainee teachers at all levels of schools in Turkmenistan.Outcomes and Outputs:1. Full needs analysis report and training of working group staff.2. National Resource Centre in Ashgabat to support Turkmen teacher training.3. Branch of resource centre in Turkmenabat to support regional teacher training.4. Modernised methodologies, curricula and text book for teacher training.5. Creation of in-service training support for serving foreign language teachers.6. Modernisation of teaching practice procedures for student teachers7.-9. Conference for dissemination; QA and sustainability measures.
