With a focus upon developing and implementing neighbourhood and community-oriented adult education, in smaller rural communities, the Landworker project initially analysed the learning and qualifications needs of the target communities prior to developing and testing a range of adult education courses in newly-established learning spaces (citizen schools). Topics of training included active citizenship, language development, sustainable development and the use of ICT, with each topic actively reflecting the needs of the target rural communities. The primary output for the Landworker project comprised a guide for adult learning experts on the establishment of citizen schools in rural communities.
