Our project ‘Lamplighters’ set out to create dialogue between young people, their representatives and policy makers - engaging young people from diverse backgrounds in integrated and structured dialogue through 6 events. These events took place and involved one of three elements: exploratory, action and sharing. Social dialogue took place on a variety of issues including young people and policing; diversity and valuing difference such as LGBT; employment and training; mental health and well-being; gender equality and the European referendum. Throughout all these activities young people have been actively engaged in planning, facilitating and participating. Young people have been visible as active citizens such as through the lamplighters walk in Newry to the town hall with the Mayor and in meeting directly with the Members of the Legislative Assembly at Stormont (Belfast). Sharing took place through 2 symbolic events where young people shared their priorities, views and solutions in relation to gender equality and the EU referendum and the implications for them living in Northern Ireland.
